Ph.D.Sustainable Rural Development

The aim of the study in the four-year doctoral study program SRD is the university education of highly qualified experts capable of independent creative scientific and research work in the areas given by the specific focus of the doctoral work, which will be oriented primarily to areas such as rural development, agricultural technology, bioresource technology, agricultural economics, quality and processing of agricultural products and value chains with a special focus on developing countries. Specifically, the program focuses on study and research in fields related to agricultural and food processing technologies, food security, environmental engineering with a focus on renewable energy sources, and agricultural economics of farm systems in developing countries. The program is characterized by interdisciplinary approaches that create prerequisites for the successful application of scientific results in practice, especially in the areas of developing countries.

Graduates of the SRD doctoral study program are experts in several sub-disciplines (see above), while the emphasis is often placed on the transdisciplinary nature of scientific work in the field of agriculture and rural development. The professional knowledge, professional skills and general competence of the graduates of the SRD doctoral study program depend to a certain extent on the topic of the dissertation thesis. They have knowledge of theoretical concepts of rural development, agricultural technologies and agricultural economics, as well as knowledge of the principles of sustainable use of natural resources and bioresource technology. They have profound knowledge of scientific methodology for data collection, data analysis and scientific data publication. Graduates can elaborate a research designs and conduct field research studies in the research disciplines such as agricultural technologies, agricultural economics, food security, agriculture production and bioresource technology in global-south countries. They can publish professional and scientific works based on original research in the form of a scientific studies a doctoral thesis and scientific papers. Graduates will find employment as managers, experts, consultants and professional advisors in private companies, research institutions and universities, and governmental and non-governmental organizations focused on agriculture, food production and processing, food security, agriculture economics and rural development. In the field of agriculture extension and other specialized services, as experts and scientists in the field of management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of international research projects focused primarily on sustainable rural development, food security and agriculture in global-south countries.
