Ph.D.Environmental Engineering

Doctoral study program Environmental Engineering continues master study program Water and Environmental engineering (2 years), opened at our faculty. Students of doctoral program are educated in highly interdisciplinary approach, to be able to analyze complicated and complex environmental problems, to overcame gap between specialists in technics, civil engineering, hydrology and other technical fields and environmental sciences. Students have an opportunity to select their specialization in many directions, including for instance landscape and catchment management, water quality and retention capacity, transportation, energy efficient buildings, landscape planning, specific geological and geotechnical topics, climate changes mitigation etc. Corresponding to wide spectrum of offered topics and fields, the list of offered study subjects is wide and study program is guided under cooperation of 10 departments, which guarantee to student sufficiently wide range of topics and experts to supervise students. The study requires passing of 6 subjects selected in close cooperation of student and his supervisor from wide offer and then work on selected topic within project, led usually by supervisor. Student is usually included as a member of wide working team, where he/she is responsible for particular topic, corresponding with his specialization. Research topics includes usually (specifically according to individual subject) field survey, laboratory and field experiment, mathematical simulation and formulation of conclusions. According to specific topic of his PhD project, student is also expected to participate at workshops and meeting, to help with seminars, to improve his/her presentation skills. Very often student is confronted with praxis, which often participate at the research itself. Before final defense, student is required to publish at least two research papers in well rated scientific journals.

Doctoral program Environmental Engineering at Faculty of Civil Engineering, CTU in Prague is very good choice for Masters from other mainly technical universities and study programs, but also more applied ones from field of life sciences, agriculture or even natural sciences. The graduate of study program Environmental Engineering at our faculty will be, due to high multidisciplinarity and integrated complexity of education well prepared for both of working and leading of wide teams in research, engineering companies, industry, construction or state management. Possible specialization is very wide and includes landscape, land management, watershed management, integrated landscape and generally environment protection and conservation, climate changes mitigation, specific environmental topics of transportation, energy efficient and environment friendly buildings and other structures, rain water management and many other specific fields, according to students individual orientation and interest.
