Ph.D.Structural and Transportation Engineering
The doctoral study program Structural and Transportation Engineering focuses on the education of young professionals, especially in the field of energy and transport infrastructure, which are two backbone areas of the construction industry which ensure the smooth running of any national economy.
Since this study program is mainly focused on the design of load-bearing structures, construction processes, maintenance and possibly also demolition, the provided study subjects include information on innovations in structural design approaches with regard to the introduction of new building materials, new advanced geometric layouts, acceleration and automation of construction, and ensuring the durability of strategic facilities, especially transport infrastructure and energy complexes.
This study program enables the expansion of students? theoretical knowledge to correspond to the current state of knowledge, and at the same time this study program provides practical experience to students in the field of innovative research, when this practical experience is gained especially in laboratories by close cooperation on current research projects. For this purpose, selected laboratories of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague were equipped with new equipment.
The students of this study program are led by experienced supervisors who have both long-term experience with the education of doctoral graduates and experience from foreign research institutions. The preparation of study subjects also took place in very close cooperation with individual teachers so that the individual teachers can pass their expert knowledge and experience as best as possible to their students.
Graduate profile
Graduates of the Structural and Transportation Engineering program are equipped with developed theoretical knowledge and analytical critical thinking, which enable them to find solutions to complex theoretical and practical problems. In addition, the graduates whose studies include laboratory work have a well-developed ability to imagine the real possibilities of the proposed solutions, and thus they are able to speed up decision-making processes significantly. This ability is necessary, for example, in managerial decisions related to the acceleration of construction, immediate repairs of strategic objects with a minimum length of closure, verification of the immediate capabilities of structures and other risky activities. In addition, the graduates who became acquainted with the assessment of risks and uncertainties during the offered courses are able to quantify such uncertainties and consider the sensitivity of problem solving with respect to individual parameters, and thus they are able to design high-quality solutions.
The graduates of the Structural and Transportation Engineering program are ready to apply themselves in the commercial sphere in various positions, as well as in the scientific or pedagogical sphere. In addition to the acquired professional knowledge, the graduates are equipped with the ability of self-presentation and the ability to present professional information in both written and oral form.
