Ph.D.Applied Physics
The doctoral study program Applied Physics is characterized by merging physical and technical perspectives for advanced interdisciplinary research and engineering applications. The concept of the Applied Physics program connects several technical areas: physics of plasma and electric discharges; preparation and properties of (nano) materials, their surfaces and interfaces; sensing and affecting properties of molecules, cells, and microorganisms; correlation of electrical, optical, spectroscopic and microscopic measuring methods; physics-based theoretical calculations and simulations; and electrical engineering for applications from electronics and energy to biomedical and environmental.
Students in the Applied Physics program are educated by respected professionals in our teams through supervising and guiding their own research in areas that are highly relevant for advancing industry and solving current societal needs. An integral part of the education is identification of students? potential, development of their specific abilities, way of thinking, writing and communication and team work skills, as well as support of their own initiative, ideas and independence. Professional as well as personal development of the students is further enhanced by gaining experience at international conferences and by internships in renowned laboratories abroad.
Graduate profile
The successful graduates of the Applied Physics program thus become highly skilled, open minded and versatile professionals in their field that are appreciated in various hi-tech as well as executive jobs in industry, academia and governmental institutions worldwide.
