Ph.D.History of Science and Technology

The doctoral study program History of Science and Technology is intended primarily for those graduates of technical, scientific and exact disciplines who are interested in the history of their field as well as for graduates of philosophical and historical disciplines (social science) who want to specialize in a particular scientific and technical discipline and professionally develop its history.

The mission of the doctoral study program is to educate a new generation of top academic researchers and experts in the history of science and technology who will go on to successfully use and apply their knowledge in top academic research (at universities, public or governmental research institutions, etc.) or in suitable workplaces requiring scientific training (such as museums, archives, foundations, science and technology parks, ministerial projects, cultural sphere or corporate culture, etc.). The goal of the study program is to teach the students modern methods of scientific work, provide them with professional knowledge of human knowledge and experience in solving research projects and team management. Students will be able to use these skills for independent research and transfer research results into practice. This knowledge and skills will be based on deep theoretical knowledge combined with knowledge of developmental and modern trends in the field of history of science and technology.

Graduate profile

Graduates of the doctoral study program History of Science and Technology will be qualified to analyze trends in the field of history of science and technology. Based on such an analysis and the ability to identify and synthesize problems, graduates will be able to find the solution to pushing the boundaries of knowledge.

Graduates are flexible, will be able to formulate scientific problems and hypotheses and determine research directions, carry out research independently as well as in a team, achieve research results, prove, verify, publish, present and defend them in the scientific community all over the world.

Graduates will find employment in scientific, scientific-pedagogical and technical-pedagogical institutions dealing primarily with the history of science and technology (e. g. archives, museums, libraries, scientific, foundation and industrial companies), as well as history in general or related historical disciplines in scientific, scientific-technical and technical-pedagogical institutions focused on other fields, including state institutions such as ministries, scientific and technical parks, National Heritage Institute, etc.).
