Msc.Quantum Technologies
The Continuation Master Course is multidisciplinary and its aim is to educate top experts in quantum information and communication, quantum optics, physics and laser techniques, solids, and nanomaterials. They may join research teams and positions in scientific and engineering practice. The core of the course concentrates on advanced parts of quantum physics and their application in physics of solids, interaction of light with matter, and quantum informatics. Throughout the degree course students are trained in analytical thinking and in exploiting the adopted methods in many fields of physics and technological applications. Moreover, the course stresses preparation of students for independent research, thus it includes a tailored student research project usually resulting in the master thesis. The findings following from the thesis are often quite unique and publishable in professional periodicals.
Graduate profile
Knowledge:
Graduates will have acquired a great knowledge of modern parts of physics, particularly of quantum theory, solid state physics, and laser physics, and, with a view to their specialization, also of quantum optics, quantum information, lasers, or physics of nanomaterials. Graduates may directly continue their academic training in a PhD programme in the same or similar field.
Skills:
Graduates are skilled in using methods and processes of various parts of mathematics and physics to solve theoretical and real engineering research and scientific problems of quantum theory, quantum optics, quantum theory of information, theory of solids, and physics and technology of lasers. They are able to use modern technology and laboratory instrumentation, follow new trends in their respective field and promptly orient themselves in interdisciplinary issues, analyse problems and synthetize results. The expected characteristics of graduates are responsible approach to their tasks and a high standard of presentation skills.
Competency:
Due to systematic and analytical approach to tasks based on the knowledge gained and the use of modern computational methods and techniques, graduates are good candidates for posts in the education system, research , and industry. They are eligible for academic posts, posts in the Czech Academy of Sciences, research centres of big companies or other research establishments. Graduates´ strong points are competencies for development of modern technologies applicable to e.g. nanomaterials, metrology, informatics, and safe communication. Besides being professionally highly competent, graduates may be successful even in managerial positions.
