One-Year Intensive Program – Editing and Creative Postproduction – at FAMU International, part of the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, is designed to equip students with the creative and technical foundations necessary for a future in creative field of postproduction. This program is ideal for those interested in studying filmmaking in Prague and discovering how powerful storytelling is shaped in the editing room.

The course emphasizes the editor’s role as a key creative collaborator, guiding students through both the theory and practice of editing across narrative and documentary formats. Through hands-on training, students gain experience using professional postproduction software, developing an editorial eye for timing, structure, and visual rhythm. Core areas include narrative construction, continuity, montage theory, sound design basics, and workflow management.

Mentor-led workshops provide a space for experimentation, allowing students to edit real footage, complete creative assignments, and shape scenes from raw material into compelling visual stories. Alongside practical work, students engage in seminars on film history, aesthetics, and postproduction theory to deepen their critical understanding of the craft.

By the end of this One-Year Intensive Program, students will have developed a personal editing style, a portfolio of finished works, and the technical skills needed to continue in advanced studies or launch their careers in filmmaking. Graduates of the One-Year Intensive Editing and Creative Postproduction Program at FAMU International, emerge as thoughtful and technically skilled storytellers, prepared to contribute to the postproduction process in both artistic and professional contexts through hands-on training and close mentorship, students gain a deep understanding of editing not only as a technical task but as a creative, narrative-shaping craft. Having worked on a variety of practical projects – from technical exercises to editing short films – graduates are capable of handling real-world postproduction workflows, using industry-standard software and applying editorial concepts such as pacing, structure, continuity, and rhythm. They are also familiar with collaborative environments, having edited student productions and participated in mentor-guided workshops.
By studying filmmaking in Prague, graduates develop an awareness of European film traditions and a critical understanding of cinematic language through seminars in film history, theory, and arts culture. Their portfolios reflect a diversity of editing work across fiction and non-fiction formats.

Admission requirements

Admission to the One-Year Intensive Editing and Creative Postproduction Program at FAMU International, part of the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, is open to aspiring editors and storytellers with a passion for cinematic structure and visual narrative. This program is ideal for students interested in studying filmmaking in Prague and exploring the creative power of postproduction in the heart of Europe’s film scene.

Applicants must first complete the official application form, either digitally or by hand. All specializations are equally competitive, so candidates are advised to select Editing and Creative Postproduction based on their true creative interests.

A current CV detailing academic and artistic experience, along with the applicant’s English proficiency, must be included. Academic transcripts from all previously attended institutions should also be submitted with the artistic sample includes: a storyboard of 12 sequential photographs that tell a story visually, a short film edited by the applicant with a downloadable Vimeo or YouTube link provided in a .doc, a list of editing and sound software the applicant has experience with and a list of ten inspirational films.

Applicants must also submit a Statement of Intent explaining their goals, reasons for wanting to study filmmaking at FAMU Prague, and how they plan to contribute to the creative environment. A one-minute downloadable video self-portrait is also required.
