University dormitories

Each university offers students the possibility of lodging in university dormitories or a hall of residence. You may of course go for private housing of your own choice, but where is the fun in that?

You may either reserve a room by yourself (usually online) or a study advisor/programme coordinator of the university will provide you with further info.

Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague

• University dormitories provide inhabitants with one/two/three bedrooms units, two beds per unit each, no single bedrooms available. Each singular unit has its own bathroom, kitchen, and restroom.

Academy of Performing Arts in Prague

• Student Residence Halls have been recently renovated and reconstructed with one/two/three-bed flats/rooms with their own bathrooms and toilets. The same building provides its inhabitants with rehearsal rooms for musicians, large tables for stage designers, and a computer room.

• Applicants for study programmes taught in a foreign language submit their applications for accommodation to the International Relations Office of their respective faculty. More information about dormitory facilities

Czech Technical University in Prague

Czech University of Life Sciences Prague

• Applicants for study programmes taught in English submit their applications for accommodation to the International Relations Office of the Faculty at which they are going to study.

University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague

• Information about accommodation can be found either via the Department of International Relations or via the Administration of University Facilities… Or you may check it out for yourself.

Prices highly depend on the dormitory of your choosing. The basic monthly rent is about 150 EUR/170 USD.

The dormitory administration can issue the confirmation of accommodation that you need for the visa process.

Private Accommodation

Another option is to find private accommodation or to share a flat. Rents are paid monthly and vary dependent on the size, location in the city and the equipment already present in the apartment. You may pay anything from 500 – 650 EUR/570 – 740 USD for a 1+1 flat in the suburbs, or a 650 – 800 EUR/740 – 910 USD for the same flat in the more centre adjacent areas.

The size is usually indicated by numbers which can be a little bit confusing. Here is a short vocabulary of the Czech real estate kingdom:

• Garsoniéra/garsonka/studio – one room that includes a kitchen.
• 1+1 – one room with a separate kitchen or a kitchen corner, normally including an entrance hall.
• 1+1kk – “kk” means kitchenette, and the kitchen is a part of one room. So it is an apartment with one separate room, one room that includes a kitchenette and an entrance hall.
