Film and Science Take Over CZU Again. Join Us at the Prague Science Film Fest

From 19 to 22 October 2026, the CZU campus will become the home of the Prague Science Film Fest (PSFF). The science documentary festival will present Czech premieres and films from around the world, as well as discussions, workshops and other accompanying events. It will also showcase the work of experts and projects involving CZU.

Our students are involved in organising the festival, helping with preparations and also serving on the student jury. They will therefore be directly involved in the festival programme and will help decide one of its awards.

CZU will showcase the breadth of its expertise

In post-screening discussions, CZU researchers will offer their expert perspectives. Topics will include landscape restoration after mining, different approaches to the use of agricultural landscapes, the importance of boredom for our mental well-being, and how plants communicate with one another.

Films produced by CZU will also be screened on the big screen, including Back Under the Trees (Zpátky pod stromy) from the Faculty of Environmental Sciences (FŽP), directed by documentary filmmaker Jan Hošek, who is also behind films such as Czech Nature: The Land of Nature (Planeta Česko) and Prague: The City of Nature (Planeta Praha). Another film, Buildings with the Scent of Wood (Stavby s vůní dřeva) from the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences (FLD), explores modern architecture and will be followed by a tour of the new Forest House. Visitors will also discover other projects involving the university, including through an exhibition focusing on the successful conservation of antelopes in Africa.

Film offers new perspectives on the world

This year’s film programme will explore, among other things, how we perceive reality and what we tend to overlook. Our Brain Is Playing Tricks on Us will show how our own brains can deceive us, Phenomena will offer a glimpse into unusual natural phenomena, and the documentary Derek vs Derek will explore the return of agricultural land to nature from different perspectives.

The programme will also feature an outdoor screening of Fire of Love, a film about a passion for volcanoes, the tongue-in-cheek Boring Conference, and a practical filmmaking workshop with MyStreetFilms.

The complete program can be found on the festival website psff.cz

Come and discover everything science has to offer on screen and beyond – right here on our campus.
