Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague
The Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM) is one of the most prestigious art schools in the Czech Republic with worldwide recognition. It proudly counts itself among the top 30 graduate art schools globally (and the only one in Central and Eastern Europe). While it is one of the oldest art academies, UMPRUM is also a modern, dynamic and outward-looking institution that seeks both highly talented and bold individuals.
The Academy offers the following study programmes in its 24 studios and 6 departments (Architecture, Design, Applied Arts, Fine Arts, Graphics, and Theory and History of Arts): four-year Bachelor´s degree programs in Czech; two-year Master´s degree courses in Czech; two-year Master´s degree courses in English called Visual Arts; six-year Master´s degrees in Architecture in Czech; three-year/four-year PhD degree programs in Czech; Erasmus+ programs in English (more than 55 partner schools); one-to-one exchange programs in English; and part-time (i.e. one/two-semester) non-degree programs in English.
The number of students accepted to UMPRUM each year might be small, but the high competition for places is balanced by an individual approach to each student across all the studios and workshops, and by the vast range of opportunities that the school provides.
UMPRUM students can gain experience and knowledge from renowned professors and leading authorities in their respective fields, work in many specialized in-house workshops covering each field of study, choose from a wide selection of theoretical classes, and exhibit in four school-owned galleries located in the centre of Prague.
Another interesting opportunity, which allows UMPRUM students to gain precious experience and recognition, consists of collaborative projects with Czech and International manufacturers. Those include Baťa, Škoda Auto, Volkswagen, Hermés, T-Mobile, Ambiente, Laufen, Preciosa, or Moser Glassworks.
The Academy also frequently partakes in prestigious design fairs such as Milan Design Week, London Design Festival, International Fashion Showcase, Brussels Design September or Heimtextil, and organizes over 15 exhibitions of student projects, half of which take place abroad.
UMPRUM is located in the old historical centre of Prague, overlooking the Vltava River, and is easily reachable by metro line A or by other means of public transport.
