Founded in 1885, the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague has evolved from being the first of its kind in the Czech lands to a modern, dynamic, and outward-looking institution, which can now be found in university rankings amongst the most prestigious art schools in Western and Eastern Europe and the whole world. It is located in the historic center of Prague and situated in the original Neo-Renaissance building completed in 1885.
Today the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design is composed of six departments focused on the fields of architecture, design, applied arts, fine arts, graphics, visual arts and art theory. The studios range from Typography to Intermedia Art, and Fashion Design to Glass, out of the 23 AAAD studios five of the six departments are led by eminent authorities in their fields, whose passion for teaching matches their dedication to their respective specializations. Competition for acceptance into the school, which is a public institution, is fierce, resulting in only a small number of students that are lucky enough to be accepted to BFA, MFA and doctorate degree programs. Students are highly-skilled and highly-motivated individuals, who proudly continue the storied legacy of the institution which has approximately 650 Czech and international students in total.
International applicants can join the UMPRUM student body as exchange students in the Erasmus+ program, as post-graduate students in the master´s degree program in English called Visual Arts, or as short-term non-degree students.
