Historical pipe-organs, means for preservation and restoration of their sound and the comprehensive musical acoustic and monument research as a part of national identity and cultural heritage of the Czech Republic

Research at Academy of Performing Arts in Prague

The chief objective of the project is the preservation, systematic rescue and reconversion of artistic and sonic richness of the national fund of historical organs. The objective is to be achieved through specific objectives (KC), which solve appropriate global goal of NAKI programme.

The project has the following specific objectives:

  1. Research and development of: a) working methods and material for the protection, restoration and improvement of the system of care preserving the sound of historical organs; b) means of monitoring and recording the factors that influence the state of organs; c) non-destructive methods of diagnosing the technology in the parts of organs that affect the sound; d) means of documenting, registering and protecting the most vulnerable historical organs which were not addressed in the NAKI I project DF12P01OVV012;
  2. Optimisation of the restoration process from the viewpoint of sound authenticity; rescue of the authentic sound when attacked by a natural threat – wood-destroying insects;
  3. Creation of the OrgDb software database for keeping records of organs from the romantic period;
  4. Creation of a software database to document musical traditions, the national identity and cultural awareness of society linked to historical organs;
  5. Comparative research utilising the data results of the project and the results of this project (focused on the Czech Republic, regions and minorities);
  6. Integration of research results of research into historical organs in the Czech Republic into education, including the presentation and disclosure in the context of national, regional and local identities of the society and cultural heritage;
  7. Linking the historical organ research results with international context in the NAKI project and standardization of the results to allow for their incorporation into EU structures.
