Five and a Half Scripts by Ester Krumbachova
Research at Academy of Performing Arts in PragueThe core of the project is preparing a publication focusing primarily on largely unknown and unfilmed scripts from the heritage of Ester Krumbachova, a theatre and film designer and scriptwriter, sometimes referred to as a “Grey Eminence” of the Czech cinema of the 1960s, and writing an introductory study on her screenwriting output. The study focuses on a series of unpublished scripts by Ester Krumbachova, which she wrote by herself as well as in collaborations with premier directors of the Czech New Wave Jan Němec and Věra Chytilova. (The scripts are titled Three Brothers and a Fountain of Miracles, Shamrock for Good Luck, Daisies, and there are extensive fragments of Code Name Ruby and Daisies II.). A major part of the publication is an original research study on her scriptwriting. The principal approach was one of original archive research that allowed the introductory study to set her published scripts in the context of her original work from both the 1960s and the 1990s.
