Msc.Visual Arts

Visual Arts is a two-year post-graduate international program in English (three-year in case of Architecture) that combines practical studio-based seminars and workshops with theoretical lectures on art theory and history. It is designed for BA/BFA or MA/MFA degree holders from universities and colleges abroad, and aims at providing foreign students with sound education in the chosen discipline/studio in order to prepare them for individual or team specialist profession all over the world.

It is open in 210 UMPRUM studios: Architecture I, II, III,IV, Ceramics and Porcelain, K.O.V., Fashion and Footwear Design, Fashion Design, Film and TV Graphics, Glass, Graphic Design and Visual Communication, Industrial Design, Interior and Furniture Design, Intermedia Art, Painting, Photography, Product Design, Sculpture, Textile Design, Type Design and Typography, Visiting Artist Studio. Successful Visual Arts students – who pass the final theoretical state exams and defend their diploma thesis and diploma project – gain an internationally acknowledged academic degree MgA. (equivalent to MA, MFA, MLitt).

Admission requirements

To be able to apply for the post-graduate program in English, candidates have to have: • a BA/BFA degree in fine arts and related technical disciplines (when applying for architecture, a BA in architecture is a condition) • a high standard of work submitted in the applicant's portfolio • a basic knowledge of art history and aesthetics • a good command of English (C1-C2) An application for the MFA degree program in English has to include:

• a completed application form (see https://www.umprum.cz/en/study/visual-arts-program/ • a CV with relevant information about the candidate´s professional history • a letter of intent – at least 1 page in English • a portfolio containing applicant´s own pieces of work related to the area of studies selected - at least 10 examples in printed form or on USB/CD/DVD • one recommendation letter • attested true copies of applicant´s BA Diploma (after being accepted, it is necessary to apply for a “nostrification”, i.e. recognition of your university studies in the Czech Republic) • proof of applicant´s capability of studying in English - attested true copies of certificates

There ́s no need to come to the Academy in person; the selection is done based on the application.
