otherAcademy Preparation Program

As an entry-level course, the Academy Preparation Program is best suited for students interested in attaining a thorough background in audio-visual or photographic media before pursuing more in-depth studies in filmmaking and related media. While the program is designed as a general filmmaking/photographic course, it is nevertheless focused through MAJOR CONCENTRATIONS. Core courses taken by the student, mentor workshops and practical works completed will vary depending on each concentration.

MAJOR CONCENTRATIONS are:

5. Editing and Creative Post-production
6. Photography
7. Animated Film

Admission requirements

TO APPLY, THE PROSPECTIVE STUDENT NEEDS TO SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS AND WORKS:
1. APPLICATION FORM
2. CV Brief description of the applicant?s academic and artistic records.
3. ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPTS From all previously attended institutions.
4. ARTISTIC SAMPLE
For Screenwriting:
a. 10 to 15 page script sample (It could be a part of a longer script.)
b. synopsis for a full length feature film of up to 3 pages
c. a list of 10 films from any period and style of film history that you consider important for your personal inspiration to date

For Directing Fiction:
a. short film which you have directed
b. a 3 to 5 page treatment for a short fiction
c. a list of 10 films from any period and style of film history that you consider important for your personal inspiration to date

For Directing Documentary and Non-fiction:
a. statement of your plans for the year (for instance, I have shot material I want to explore and develop into a documentary, or I will work on an experimental film as an individual artist, etc.)
b. a film sample
c. written explanation of your participation on the submitted film (up to 2 pages), and other material, which supports your ability to carry out your plans
d. a list of 10 films from any period and style of film history that you consider important for your personal inspiration to date

For Cinematography concentration:
a. a short film on which you have worked as cinematographer
b. written explanation of your participation on the submitted project (up to 2 pages)
c. a portfolio of 10-15 thematically related photos ? either as a storyboard or photos which reveal one situation/event. (Presentation in .jpg not exceeding 2000px in length, each photo has its number to show the ascending order.)
d. a list of 10 films from any period and style of film history that you consider important for your personal inspiration to date

For Editing and Creative Post-production
a. a series of 12 photographs representing a storyboard ? that is, a narrated action (documentary or acted) from the beginning to the end, understandable without any other explanation, except for the title. (Presentation in .jpg not exceeding 2000px in length, each photo has its number to show the ascending order.)
b. a short film on which you have worked as editor
c. a list of digital software (non-linear editing, special effects, sound design) you are familiar with and the level of your knowledge (software competence not required, this is just for information)
d. a list of 10 films from any period and style of film history that you consider important for your personal inspiration to date

For Photography
a. collection(s) of photographs of your choice which represents your skills and creative talent the best. (Presentation in .jpg not exceeding 2000px in length, each photo has its number to show the ascending order.) The minimum number of photographs is 20 and the maximum is 40. Try to present independent photo series to prove your ability to compose collections of images.
b. a list of 10 photographers of any genre you consider the most influential (with a short explanation, please)
c. the project ? a brief, written idea about the courses you would like to take as well as photographic work you would like to dedicate yourself

For Animated Film:
a. an analysis of any animated film (1 ? 2 pages)
b. an original theme for own animated film (1 text page), it is possible but not necessary to submit a visual idea for the animated film (1 page)
c. own artwork (20 items) in .png format 1500px minimum
5. STATEMENT OF INTENT:
A short personal essay on what the applicant expects from her/his studies at FAMU.
6. SELF-PORTRAIT One minute video self-portrait.
7. APPLICATION FEE: A scanned certificate of having deposited the application fee of EUR 50.
