Ph.D.Materials Engineering

Czech Technical University in Prague - Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
creative work in the field of research and development at the FMI, research institutions and in industry. Graduate benefits by theoretical knowledge gained by the study aimed at basic and applied research. PhD student obtains the methods of studying engineering subjects and gains a current knowledge in the field. He masters both computational and simulation tools, which are based on modern hardware and software. He manages methods of experimental research on models and real works related to the issues of the dissertation. Doctoral study significantly deepens theoretical knowledge about physical and chemical properties of metallic essence, non-metallic and composite materials. The emphasis is on the relationship between structure, mechanical properties and failure of materials, special attention is paid to the impacts of technological parameters and operating conditions. Students are also acquainted with modern experimental techniques for studying the properties of materials. Material engineering doctoral studies based on current world trends of material solutions in the aerospace, automotive, construction, manufacturing machinery and equipment and biomedicine. Part of the study nanomaterials and nanotechnology with a focus on applications in the engineering industry. Environmental aspects and the use of renewable sources added complexity studies. Students can choose to focus more narrowly on either metallic or non-metallic materials.

Graduate profile

The graduate obtains a highly specialized expertise in the physical nature of properties of metallic and non-metallic materials in relation with their electronic, atomic, molecular and crystalline structure. Emphasis is laid particularly on assessment of the structure and properties of materials, their processing, diagnostics and application in engineering and other fields - eg. biomedicine. His education based on deep knowledge and other skills will provide the PhD graduate with skill to evaluate and formulate achieved initial results deepending on the demands of research and development. His profile involves international presentation or realization of his results with regard to the protection of intellectual property.
