The PhD study program Electrical Power Engineering is focused on the topics concerning the theoretical and application problems of the production, transmission, distribution and utilization of electric energy. The study program focuses on research in the areas of development, cooperation, control, reliability and optimization in power engineering systems, distributed generation of electric energy in distribution systems, voltage quality, power-disturbance elimination, mathematical and computer modelling of the coupled problems in the area of heavy current electrical engineering and electrical power engineering, lighting systems and light fields, electroheat devices and technologies and electrothermal processes. The Department of Electrical Power Engineering engages in long-term cooperation with numerous universities abroad, e.g. with university of Liege in the field of overhead lines ampacity and University of Quebec in Chicoutimi in the area of high voltage technologies. It also has very good working relationships with some institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The department is equipped with a specialized high-voltage laboratory hall, totally shielded and equipped with sources of DC (up to 200kV), AC (up to 500 kV) and surge voltage (up to 1,5 MV).
The PhD student can interested in the research in the field of modern diagnostic methods in insulation systems of non-rotating and rotating electrical machines and high-voltage systems. The graduate of PhD study at the Department of Electrical Power Engineering is able to solve scientific and complex engineering tasks in the field of electrical power systems. The graduate has high theoretical knowledge on general level and specialized knowledge in a specialization where his dissertation work was focused. Graduates are able to adapt to the practice applications in both basic and applied research. PhD graduates may easily become specialists in all fields of electricity generation, transmission and distribution. They are able to work as scientists and researchers as well as managers in basic or applied research. Graduates may actively participate in various research and consulting institutions or to work in power plants, transmission and distribution companies.
