PhD study in the field of Computer Science and Informatics is performed at two departments at Faculty of Electrical Engineering at CTU in Prague: Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Department of Computer Graphics and Interaction. There is a fundamental assumption that student of this PhD study program will be able to solve complex problems in the field of Computer Science. The solution to these problems should contain a new and important contribution from the point of the current state of art in the given field. The path to such an achievement leads through publications on high quality international conferences and also through publications in prestigious international scientific journals. As both above mentioned departments cover very wide spectrum of Computer Science and Informatics (both in research and education) it is obvious that spectrum of research topics the students can study is also very wide. Let us name just few of them: Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Agent Based Systems, Bioinformatics, Computer Graphics, Human Computer Interaction and Computer Networks.
The graduate from this PhD program acquired during the study abilities to formulate scientific problems and consequently determine methods that will solve the specified problem. That is why it is essential to train students both in mathematics and in theoretical disciplines of Computer Science. Integral part of the training is the transformation of theoretical results into practical use. In such a way the close link between theory and practice is achieved. Graduates from this PhD study make their career both in academia and in industry and governmental institutions where computers are widely used. Several graduates started in the past their academic careers at prestigious universities in the US.
