Applied electrical engineering studies provide a theoretical and practical education in the production and utilization of electrical components, devices and machines, as well as materials for use in electrical engineering, in PV panels and in the design and production of electric drives and machines. The study program also focuses on power generation, transmission and distribution, high voltage applications and power electronics. Mathematics and physics form a significant part of this study specialization. The master programme in EEM offers two ways of specializing: a more technical variant, and a more economic variant. Three technical study blocks provide extended knowledge of ecological aspects of materials and production in electrical and power engineering, power generation, transmission, distribution and consumption, design and production of electric drives, design and production of power system components, and design of control systems for electric machines. Two other blocks combine technology and economics. These study blocks deal with economics and management of power generation, distribution and power consumption, economics of energy savings and renewable energy sources, financial decision making, financial management, marketing, logistics, and development of energy systems.
Graduates are prepared for managerial posts in the field of power engineering, i.e. in those sectors of economy, where they can apply their knowledge of economics and energy management (central authorities, financial markets, energy markets, designing energy systems, etc.). Their education is based on technical and economic managerial expertise, i.e. on the acquirements gained in previous undergraduate technical courses, focusing mainly on technology, electrical engineering, power engineering, information technology and control systems engineering. Technical education acquired in the bachelor degree study adequately continues in the master degree, where they also receive a comprehensive graduate education in economy, targeted on applications in the field of power engineering. Graduates hereby obtain a significant, in practice very appreciated competitive advantage, which lies in the fact that the knowledge of economy and management is based on the expertise in engineering, which allows fulfilling the requirement on a systematic approach to problem solving, analytical work and managerial activities. Graduates are prepared to solve challenging managerial and economic problems in the fields such as production and transmission, distribution, trade, energy exploitation and research. They can apply their knowledge in strategic, tactical and operational management levels. In contrast to classical economic studies, the graduates have specific competence thanks to their technical knowledge. Last but not least, mastering technical thinking, supported mainly by mathematical competence received during their studies, is also appreciated in the labour market.
